Palm Biomass → Biochar · Verified Carbon Removal

Turn the residue into
carbon that counts.

Malaysia burns or dumps most of the 80-million-plus tonnes of oil-palm biomass it produces each year. Turned to biochar and measured properly, that same residue becomes durable carbon removal — and a new income line for the farmers who grew it. Emertech Trace is the digital MRV that makes the claim auditable, tonne by tonne.

The opportunity — and the problem

A carbon claim is only worth its weakest record.

Biochar is one of the few carbon-removal pathways that is durable, measurable and available at scale in Malaysia today. But a tonne of CO₂ removed is a financial instrument, and buyers, registries and independent verifiers will only pay for what can be proven — where the biomass came from, how much durable carbon was made, and that it was counted once. Fragmented evidence is what turns a real removal into an unsellable one.

Biomass genealogy

Prove which plantation, smallholder or mill supplied the residue in each biochar batch, with MSPO chain-of-custody carried through, not left at the estate gate.

Mass balance, end to end

Reconcile biomass collected, biomass pyrolysed, biochar produced and biochar finally applied or stored — so claimed removal never exceeds real material movement.

Methodology-grade MRV

Capture the exact evidence a Puro.earth, Isometric or CSI methodology and its independent verifier require to calculate and certify net carbon removal.

Revenue back to the farmer

Connect verified biomass contribution to agreed benefit mechanisms, so smallholders and suppliers share transparently in the carbon value they helped create.

The chain of custody

Eight stages, from frond to credit.

Each stage captures a defined set of records — and each field arrives from a specific place: a person's hands, a sensor, a government or registry system, an instrument, or the ledger itself. Below, every field is tagged with where its data comes from.

Where the data comes from

Six kinds of truth, colour-coded.

A verifier trusts a number in proportion to where it came from. Manual entry is fast to deploy but needs discipline; weighbridges, reactor probes, lab instruments and registry feeds are far harder to dispute. Emertech Trace labels each field so a Puro, Isometric or CSI verifier knows exactly how firm the evidence is. Tap a source to highlight it across the chain above.

These are the Malaysia-specific dropdowns a project operator actually fills in. Every choice flows straight into the verifier-facing removal record — and into the QR a buyer or auditor scans to check the claim.

From tonnes of residue to tCO₂e — and back to the farmer.

A credit is not the biochar; it is what survives after the emissions of making it are subtracted, and after the carbon that would have stayed put anyway is removed from the claim. Emertech Trace keeps that arithmetic transparent, and then splits the resulting value by who actually contributed the biomass.

Built to fit, not to replace

Interoperable with the systems Malaysia already uses.

Emertech Trace is not another registry or standard. It is the operational evidence layer that feeds the methodologies, chain-of-custody schemes and carbon-market infrastructure Malaysia has already put in place — so a project earns credibility without rebuilding what exists.

When the verifier asks

A verifier-ready dossier, on demand.

The value of a record is how fast it answers a question. From any credit, batch or supplier, the platform assembles the evidence an independent verifier or registry actually requires.

Mass-balance reconciliation

Pyrolysis & laboratory evidence

Net-removal & benefit ledger

Lifecycle GHG and net-tCO₂e calculation, credit ownership, and the farmer/supplier benefit-distribution record.

Honest by design

What this demonstration does — and doesn't — claim.

The QR is a retrieval key, not the credit. The carbon claim rests on the full evidence bundle and independent verification behind it — a scan simply retrieves that record.

Emertech Trace does not issue credits. Net removal, additionality, permanence and issuance are determined by the chosen methodology and an independent verifier and registry — Trace organises the evidence they assess.

Integrations depend on access. Live links to MSPO/MPOB, methodology registries, Bursa Carbon Exchange and payment systems are subject to technical access and permissions, confirmed during implementation.

Every tonne is counted once. Double-counting control and blockchain anchoring guard against a removal being claimed twice — but the figures shown here are illustrative and synthetic.
